Summer skin tips: How to look after your sensitive skin
Friday July 13, 2018 by
Do you find your sensitive skin condition, such as eczema, worsens during the summer months?
An estimated six million people suffer with eczema in the UK, and whilst we all look forward to the warmer weather, those with sensitive skin conditions know too well that the hotter climates can cause havoc with flare-ups.
To help you keep your symptoms at bay, we’ve put together our top tips on how to look after your skin this summer:
1) Use plenty of moisturiser. If you have eczema, your skin barrier is damaged, which makes their skin more sensitive to irritants, allergens, bacteria and other invaders. A damaged skin barrier also make it harder for the skin to retain water, leading to chronic dry, itchy skin, which can cause eczema to flare or get worse.
Our QV Cream is a highly concentrated, rich, moisturising cream which protects against water loss by sealing in the skin’s own natural moisture.
2) Stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water will help to keep your skin healthy. Women should aim to drink eight glasses a day whilst men should try and drink ten glasses a day. This will help to flush toxins out of your body and provide moisture to your skin.
3) Use sunscreen. Everybody should protect their skin with a high SPF to help prevent sun damage from UV rays. Our sister brand SunSense has a sensitive range which is specifically designed for very sensitive skin so those with a sensitive skin condition can protect themselves with minimum irritation.
4) Wear suitable clothing. Loose-fitting, cotton clothing is usually the best option to limit skin irritation. Being too hot can cause sensitive skin conditions to become itchy and therefore susceptible to irritation.
